A couple of weeks ago we decided to try and arrange our own little coding dojo. We ended up choosing the string calculator as our challenge for the night and Python were chosen as programming language. Some of us had never programmed in Python before, and all of us were very eager to get our hands on some test driven development.
Our setup for the evening.
I would really encourage you to arrange a coding dojo yourself. It’s very fun to gain new knowledge, and it’s even more fun when it’s done together with friends. It’s a casual way to get a peek on another programming language or technology.
Check out this quick video on how to arrange your own coding dojo. A collection of various code katas can be found here.
I stumbled upon a rather interesting service yesterday. It’s called Minus, and promises to be the easiest and most fun way of sharing large files for free. I signed up and thought I would give it a go, and a day later I must say that I am fairly impressed. Watch the video below to get to know more about Minus.
When you sign up you get 10 GB of space to host your files, but the size limit for each file is set to 2 GB. I can’t seem to be able to pay for more space, so the only way of increasing my max space is by inviting friends to Minus. A subscription plan may come later.
If you are interested in testing Minus, you may gladly use the following invitation to sign up. That way both you and I get 1 GB extra added to our max space.
Four days ago I left what possibly could be the best event of the year. I’m talking about The Gathering 2012 or TG12 for short. The Gathering is the world’s second largest computer party, where 5200 people gather to share their common interest in computers for five days.
The gorgeous view of TG by night. Picture by nichevo.
Some of you might wonder why I would spend five straight days in front of the computer, when I could’ve been spending the easter skiing with my family. Well, TG is about so much more than just sitting in front of the computer. TG is first and foremost about making amazing new friends. It’s about gaining awesome new skills you didn’t know you were able to obtain. It’s about making fantastic creative creations and it’s about competing in games you’ve trained in for years. All this is TG and what I have had the pleasure to be a part of this easter.
This was my second year at The Gathering and definetly not my last. I’ve already started planning next year with friends I went with this year, and we have huge plans to make next years event even better.
Check out this site if you want to see more pictures from TG12.
Spotify launched their so-called Play Button today, so I thought I’d give it a go. Here are a couple of songs from some of my favorite Norwegian artists.
It’s also possible to show a whole playlist, but I think it looks better with single songs. The widget allows some small configurations when it comes to size, and it seems like themes and different views are to come in the near future.
You can read more about the Spotify Play Button here.
